About New Hope Family Camp
Since 2003, New Hope has offered family bereavement camps and retreats. New Hope Family Camps and retreats take place in nature and are designed for all types of families, not just the traditional. It’s for families who have experienced the death of a loved one, and each family member is encouraged to attend. In a safe and supportive environment families explore their loss with other families touched by grief.
Families learn to communicate and face their grief through groups, workshops, and activities led by staff and trained facilitators that integrate peer support. Campers discover that they can live life in a changed world with a new relationship with their loved one who has died. Family Camp provides a balance of fun activities (sports, games, art, etc.) with grief education & exercises age-appropriate for each member of the family.
Families will find comfort, hope, and healing while making new friends with other families who are also grieving a death. The purpose is that each family member is individually strengthened and supported so that the entire family can move forward together on their journey of grief to a place of new normal.
Attending Family Camp
Camp is offered to any family with children who have experienced the death of a loved one. The first step is to fill out our Family Camp Interest Form. Please know that space is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis and upon the completion of an intake interview, staff approval, and all necessary paperwork. Camp takes place at Camp Fire Long Beach. For questions please contact our Support Team at (562) 429-0075 extension 2 or email them at support@newhopegrief.org
Our Family Camp Facilitators
Our facilitators are highly trained and compassionate volunteers dedicated to supporting campers as they engage in activities and build connections with one another. Some of our facilitators are New Hope Alumni who have participated in our programs and have returned to volunteer. Throughout the entire camp, New Hope Directors oversee the facilitators to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Cost to Attend Family Camp
New Hope relies on the generosity of individual donors, corporations, and grants to cover our camp expenses. Thanks to our supporters, we can charge a nominal fee of $150 per family to attend camp, regardless of family size. We also offer camp scholarships for families who cannot afford the $150 fee. No family has ever been turned away for financial reasons. Please let us know if your family could benefit from a partial or full scholarship.

Sponsor A Camper
Each year, New Hope serves over 200 campers, offering them and their families hope and healing through connection and support. We rely on the generosity of individual donors and corporations to fund our Family Camp. The average cost per camper is $500. Please consider sponsoring campers; your gift will help a family benefit from our Family Camp, ensuring they do not have to grieve alone. Thank you for your generosity!
